The GOLDEN RULE 
Buddha described himself as, “I am awake.”
In my opinion, Buddha was awakened to “Reality, Truth, God.” See, for example the Twin Verses of Buddha.
The goal of the 12 Step program is a spiritual awakening to “Reality, Truth, God.”
IMHO, Einstein’s spiritual awakening was E = mc2, Bohr’s was the solar system structure of atoms, etc.
Nothing is more needed in society than a spiritual awakening to “Reality, Truth, God.”
