The government’s criteria for “misinformation” may be genuine, but not necessarily.
It is clearly, at times, simply nominating information they disagree with or do not want the public to know. (A situation not exclusive to Australia).
If it is a criticism of the government, or something they are promoting, the information might be quite genuine
There is usually no evidence to prove so.. Instead of leaving judgement sensibly and fairly to the readers, they not only institute rigid judgement, but wish to destroy any forms of opposition.
The irony of this situation is that, in reality, the information being protected by such censorship and penalties, is often itself the “misinformation”. Certainly claimed to be, by the objectors who usually offer some evidence of their clims.
If censorship and even penalties are deemed appropriate by the government, so much for our govrenment “of the people, by the people, for the people” Thus, the ideals of democracy and freedom of speech are clearly being ignored. The “Ministry of Truth” of George Orwell’s “1984” is in fact becoming a reality!.

| Sandra Bourke, ADVANCE Dear Ken, Our enemies are experts at controlling the words we use. It’s not an illegal immigrant, it’s an “asylum seeker”. You don’t love your country, you’re an “extremist”. It’s not a legitimate protest against unjustified lockdowns, it’s “domestic terrorism”. It’s not racial division, it’s “the Voice”. It’s not the weather, it’s a “climate emergency”. And here’s the big one. It’s not censorship of an opinion they disagree with, it’s “dangerous misinformation”. It’s clever, I’ll give them that. But it’s also a lie. They manipulate the words we use to hide their real intent. It starts when the activists use a new word and before you know it, the ABC and the leftist media are on board. And then the government. Because who would support a law that’s about the nation’s elites silencing people who disagree with them? No one. But “dangerous misinformation” sounds like a real problem, right? It’s all about the elites and activists fixing the rules of the game so you and I are always starting behind the eightball. Anthony Albanese says his proposed law to censor the opinions of Australians is about “combatting misinformation”. Well, we’re not playing that game. We’re calling this law out for what it is. A law to censor and silence you. A law that means the government gets to decide what you can and can’t say. A law that is a direct attack on your freedoms we all enjoy as Australians. ADVANCE has polling on whether Australians support this new law and the results will shock you. More than 50 per cent think the “misinformation” law is a good thing, even though it will limit freedom of speech. One in five Australians strongly agree with the law. Why? Because Labor, the Greens and the Teals are hiding the ball. They say it’s about preventing bad people lying to Australians. Not true. As Peta Credlin said: Make no mistake, the federal government’s Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation Bill – which it wants to ram through the parliament in time for the next election – is a dagger aimed at the heart of our democracy. As an ADVANCE supporter, I know this law makes you angry. Rest assured, we’re going to fight it. Since we started campaigning against this law more than a year ago, almost 53,000 Australians have signed the open letter against these Ministry of Truth laws. You and I have a job ahead of us to convince every Australian that censorship of political opinions is a bad idea. Let’s start by calling this what it is: censorship. Yours sincerely, ![]() Sandra Bourke ADVANCE Spokeswoman |
