The Summary for Policymakers was written in collaboration with the lead authors and approved by them. Because it is aimed at a larger popular audience than the book, it adds a discussion of the scientific method and the precautionary principle, a brief summary and critical analysis of each of the IPCC’s main lines of argument, and a brief set of recommendations for policymakers. We also recommend you review the separate Executive Summary.

CCR II: Physical Science is an independent, comprehensive, and authoritative report on the current state of climate science. It is the fourth in a series of scholarly reports produced by the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC), an international network of climate scientists sponsored by three nonprofit organizations: the Science and Environmental Policy Project (SEPP), Center for the Study of Carbon Dioxide and Global Change, and The Heartland Institute.

Whereas the reports of the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warn of a dangerous human effect on climate, NIPCC concludes the human effect is likely to be small relative to natural variability, and whatever small warming is likely to occur will produce benefits as well as costs.

CCR-II consists of three parts: a Summary for Policy Makers (SPM), part one titled Physical Science, and part two titled Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerabilities. The SPM and part one was released on September 17-18, 2013 in Chicago, Illinois USA. Additional release events will take place the following week in the U.S. in Washington, DC, New York, Florida, and the following week in England, Germany, and Holland. See the calendar feature in the right sidebar of this site for more event information.

Believe what you will but the evidence supports this science.

On the other side of the coin, the evidence is strong that the science is invalidated and the agenda bias is strong.

Be careful in what you believe. I suppose in the long run it doesn’t matter much what you and I believe, but it matters that megadollars are wasted and that countries are subjected to outside controls and social destruction. This matters to me.

IPCC: Fixing the Facts

If a practical exercise at school, it would be called cheating.
In a responsible, honest science environment, it would be called surprising dishonesty.
In the warmist, agenda-driven, political fraternity it is still deemed to be settled science, peer -reviewed and meaningful.

The “Emperor” is now devoid of clothing, as is the IPCC statement of global warming due to CO2 increases, devoid of any credibility.

The rest of the world that accepts this IPCC garbage should be ashamed of their own gullibility, or collusion, whichever applies.

Climate Audit

Figure 1.4 of the Second Order Draft clearly showed the discrepancy between models and observations, though IPCC’s covering text reported otherwise. I discussed this in a post leading up to the IPCC Report, citing Ross McKitrick’s article in National Post and Reiner Grundmann’s post at Klimazweiberl. Needless to say, this diagram did not survive. Instead, IPCC replaced the damning (but accurate) diagram with a new diagram in which the inconsistency has been disappeared.

The World Must Take Charge at Fukushima

The title is selective, but highlights the seriousness of the situation and the inadequacy of the Japanese to deal with it. Now that the situation is so bad, it may be too late for any actions to be significantly effective.

The situation is clearly catastrophic, and something needs to be done!

Something should have been done right from the start. With hindsight, something should have been done at the inception of this and other nuclear power plants. Truly fail-safe design and engineering. Certainly, being practical, nothing can be truly fail-safe, but safety has been compromised by human weaknesses and profit motives.

Unfortunately, the Fukushima disaster will be seen to be the pinnacle of mankind’s follies.

COTO Report

Massive leakages of heavily contaminated water, crumbling structures, and spent fuels that if exposed to air could release 85 times as much lethal caesium as was released at Chernobyl are obvious reasons why urgent help is needed from the world’s top experts.

Two households, full time job, bi-coastal, and more

A strange, in a way, addition to my blog. It requires some explanation – why choose it and what is achieved? My reasons are basically personal and I expect few readers will gain much insight from reading it through.

However, it does reflect closely my philosophy on life and civilization.
It supports my views, in general, it helps my confidence in what I believe. EM Smith stands out as an independent and very competent thinker.

His blog was my first reader experience of the type of intelligence (both senses of the word), available on the internet.
Mike was kind enough to accept my contributions to his topics and offered much wisdom.
We didn’t always agree, I am a little more adventurous in my thinking and often place reliance on gut-feeling. Room for error, but I rarely go out on a limb without considerable compelling evidence from somewhere.

Given the confidence to start my own blog, I am satisfied with the progress but feel the need to show gratitude where it is clearly due.

So readers may not want to follow this through, but Mike’s wisdom is outstanding and provides a basis for anybody to get a grasp on reality, if that is their desire.

Musings from the Chiefio

Sigh.

Despite my best intent, and a few dozen pages of notes on a dozen topics, I’ve not kept up with postings. What can I say. I’m maintaining 2 households, have a full time job, need to do all my own cooking, cleaning, washing, have a “bi-coastal” lifestyle as we figure out who is traveling to which coast ( I’m now a Floridian, so think the spouse needs to just come here 😉 and more.

Something has had to give, and it’s been a collection of things. First off, reading. I’ve not been able to keep up on things. A half dozen books sit unopened 3 months after buying them. WUWT has been visited as much as I can visit anything, and every time there is a backlog of postings that I haven’t read. More than I CAN read. Sigh. (again)…

A day in the life:

I get up, turn…

5 Lies Invented to Spin UN Report on Syrian Chemical Weapons Attack

Another important post from ‘nsnbc’ to balance the absurd rhetoric that flows from the Western leaders and is readily passed on to the public by the press, creating absolutely the incorrect impressions and intentions of the involved parties.

Another case of fabrication as was in the Iraqi “Weapons of Mass Destruction”, the story of which is now referred to as “Weapons of Mass Deception”.

Tony Cartalucci (LD) , –  As predicted days before the UN’s Syrian chemical weapons report was made public, the West has begun spinning the findings to bolster their faltering narrative regarding alleged chemical weapon attacks on August 21, 2013 in eastern Damascus, Syria. The goal of course, is to continue demonizing the Syrian government while simultaneously sabotaging a recent Syrian-Russian deal to have Syria’s chemical weapon stockpiles verified and disarmed by independent observers.

A barrage of suspiciously worded headlines attempt to link in the mind of unobservant readers the UN’s “confirmation” of chemical weapons use in Syria and Western claims that it was the Syrian government who used them. Additionally, the US, British, and French governments have quickly assembled a list of fabrications designed to spin the UN report to bolster their still-unsubstantiated accusations against the Syrian government.

Image: 107mm rocket shells frequently used by terrorists operating within and along Syria's borders. They are similar in configuration and function to those identified by the UN at sites investigated after the alleged August 21, 2013 Damascus, Syria chemical weapons attack, only smaller.

Image: 107mm rocket shells frequently used by terrorists operating within and along Syria’s borders. They are similar in configuration and function to those identified by the UN at sites investigated after the alleged August 21, 2013 Damascus, Syria chemical weapons attack, only smaller.

The BBC’s article, “US and UK insist UN chemicals report ‘blames Syria’,” again states unequivocally, [emphasis added]:

The UN report did not attribute blame for the attack, as that was not part of its remit.

However, that did not stop UK Foreign Secretary William Hague who claimed:  “From the wealth of technical detail in the report – including on the scale of the attack, the consistency of sample test results from separate laboratories, witness statements, and information on the munitions used and their trajectories – it is abundantly clear that the Syrian regime is the only party that could have been responsible.”

And US ambassador to the UN Samantha Power who stated:  “The technical details of the UN report make clear that only the regime could have carried out this large-scale chemical weapons attack.”

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius is also quoted as saying:   “When you look at the findings carefully, the quantities of toxic gas used, the complexity of the mixes, the nature, and the trajectory of the carriers, it leaves absolutely no doubt as to the origin of the attack.”

The Washington Post went one step further, and perhaps foolishly, laid out a detailed explanation of each fabrication the West is using to spin the latest UN report. In an article titled, “The U.N. chemical weapons report is pretty damning for Assad,” 5 points are made and explained as to why the UN report “points” to the Syrian government.

The Dark Side of Gardasil

I am moved to return to the vaccine debate after giving it a bit of rest. There are previous posts here on this very topic but nothing as moving as this article from  SaneVax, Inc., by Ashley Adair, a serious sufferer of Gardasil side-effects.

Reading the associated comments is recommended because there the debate rages about, “one example, what about the saved traumas?” and includes a lot about “there are many examples”, “it is not necessary”, etc.

It doesn’t touch on my own suspicions of there being an agenda to mass inoculate with the ulterior motive to reduce fertility rates, but that is another story, not substantiated, just a suspicion as I said.

By Ashley Adair

Ashley lives Gardasil's dark side

Ashley lives on Gardasil’s dark side

My name is Ashley Adair. I live in Georgia. I have suffered for five years from the side effects of something I thought would help me. I received the Gardasil vaccine because the people and doctors all around me kept telling me “OH! This vaccine is the best thing to happen to the medical industry!” Of course my mom and I fell for it like many others. I want to let people know about the dark side of this vaccine.

Before the HPV Vaccine, I was the most energetic child. I went to school for 8 hours, then went to 3 hours of gymnastics practice, finishing with homework at night. My weekends were filled with gymnastics meets. After gymnastics I went straight into competition cheerleading, which were the same hours. I basically lived in the gym and loved every second of it, I was blessed. Overall I was a healthy child.

I received my first injection in April, 2008. My injection did hurt more than a normal injection. I had mild soreness and redness after. At the time I didn’t realize the symptoms I was having. I had slight fatigue, and I would occasionally have a very sore throat. I couldn’t stick my tongue out and I just threw it off as an allergic reaction to chlorine because I was swimming a lot.

The nightmare began on June, 2008. I received the second shot and I noticed it hurt a bit more than the first. I almost cried a bit which is very much unlike me. I got a little lightheaded at the checkout line. After 30 minutes I was fine.

The very next night I told my mom I was very sick. I was crying in pain with my pelvic and legs absolutely killing me. I was running a fever and I was very nauseous. So like a parent would, she took me to the emergency room. Of course, doctors only listen to one symptom and told me I had a stomach virus that they couldn’t do anything and sent me home.

The next day I was so exhausted and slept till about 3 o’clock. My mom came home from work and I went outside and noticed I had some kind of rash all over my body. It looked like someone took a fine point purple permanent marker and dotted it all over me. My mom immediately took me to my regular pediatrician and he could not figure out what was on me. He ran a lot of blood work on me and we went home until we could receive the blood work news. My mom received a phone call around 9 O’clock. One of the scariest phone calls she has ever received.

My doctor told her I needed to get back to the ER ASAP. He told her that my blood work was CRITICAL, and the rash on me was called a petechial rash. My red blood cells and white blood cells were completely wiped out. They told me if I were to do a handstand my gums would start bleeding and I would bleed to death. If I caught a common cold my body would not be able to fight it off and I would die. Over the next 6 weeks I went through so many different rashes, EXTREME fatigue, joint pains, leg pains, shoulder pains, dizziness, and low blood pressure.

I finally went to an infectious disease specialist and he told me not to get the third shot or I wouldn’t be here.

Read the complete story here. (Note its following comments).

Also carefully follow up the ‘Related Articles’ below. There are some horrific claims with a great deal of apparent validity. In particular, the admission by one of the vaccine creators.

Doubts over IPCC’s global warming rates – Doubts over the IPCC’s validity.

Items of importance – Proof that the IPCC “science” is not settled, and signs that the mainstream media are prepared to report the situation a little more openly and honestly.

Thirdly, how very strange that the IPCC can spin this scientific fact into “The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says there is now a 95 per cent probability that humans are responsible for global warming.”

From Graham Lloyd, ‘The Australian’, “News”:

THE Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s latest assessment reportedly revises down the speed at which climate change is happening.

And according to reports in British and US media, the draft report appears to suggest global temperatures are less sensitive to rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide than was previously thought.

The IPCC’s 2007 assessment report said the planet warmed at a rate of 0.2C a decade in the previous 15 years, but according to Britain’s The Mail on Sunday the draft update report says the figure for the 60 years since 1951 has been 0.12C a decade. The equivalent long-range figure for the 2007 report was 0.13C a decade.

Last week, the IPCC was forced to deny it was locked in crisis talks as reports intensified that scientists were preparing to revise down the speed at which climate change is happening and its likely impact.

It is believed the IPCC draft report will still conclude there is now greater confidence that climate change is real, humans are having a major impact and that the world will continue to warm catastrophically unless drastic action is taken to curb greenhouse gas emissions.

The impacts would include big rises in the sea level, floods, droughts and the disappearance of the Arctic icecap.

But claimed contradictions in the report have led to calls for the IPCC report process to be scrapped.

Professor Judith Curry, head of climate science at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, told The Daily Mail the leaked summary showed “the science is clearly not settled, and is in a state of flux”.

The Wall Street Journal said the updated report, due out on September 27, would show “the temperature rise we can expect as a result of manmade emissions of carbon dioxide is lower than the IPCC thought in 2007”.

The WSJ report said the change was small but “it is significant because it points to the very real possibility that, over the next several generations, the overall effect of climate change will be positive for humankind and the planet”.

After several leaks and reports on how climate scientists would deal with a slowdown in the rate of average global surface temperatures over the past decade, the IPCC was last week forced to deny it had called for crisis talks.

“Contrary to the articles the IPCC is not holding any crisis meeting,” it said in a statement.

The IPCC said more than 1800 comments had been received on the final draft of the “summary for policymakers” to be considered at a meeting in Stockholm before the release of the final report. It did not comment on the latest report, which said scientists accepted their forecast computers may have exaggerated the effect of increased carbon emissions on world temperatures and not taken enough notice of natural variability.

According to The Daily Mail, the draft report recognised the global warming “pause”, with average temperatures not showing any statistically significant increase since 1997.

Scientists admitted large parts of the world had been as warm as they were now for decades at a time between 950 and 1250, centuries before the Industrial Revolution.

And, The Daily Mail said, a forecast in the 2007 report that hurricanes would become more intense had been dropped.

Writing in The Wall Street Journal, Matt Ridley said the draft report had revised downwards the “equilibrium climate sensitivity”, a measure of eventual warming induced by a doubling of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It had also revised down the Transient Climate Response, the actual climate change expected from a doubling of atmospheric carbon dioxide about 70 years from now.

Ridley said most experts believed that warming of less than 2C from pre-industrial levels would result in no net economic and ecological damage. “Therefore, the new report is effectively saying (based on the middle of the range of the IPCC’s emissions scenarios) that there is a better than 50-50 chance that by 2083 the benefits of climate change will still outweigh the harm,” he said.

Then we come to Mark Moran, (‘Climate Depot’), reporting a reputable scientific article, clearly refuting the IPCC conclusions as being incoherent.

MIT Climate Scientist Dr. Richard Lindzen Rips UN IPCC Report: ‘The latest IPCC report has truly sunk to level of hilarious incoherence’ — ‘It is quite amazing to see the contortions the IPCC has to go through in order to keep the international climate agenda going’

Former UN IPCC Lead Author Richard Lindzen: ‘In attributing warming to man, they fail to point out that the warming has been small, and totally consistent with there being nothing to be alarmed about’

By: Climate Depot   Climate Depot Exclusive

MIT Climate Scientist Dr. Richard Lindzen told Climate Depot on September 27, 2013:

I think that the latest IPCC report has truly sunk to level of hilarious incoherence.  They are proclaiming increased confidence in their models as the discrepancies between their models and observations increase.

Their excuse for the absence of warming over the past 17 years is that the heat is hiding in the deep ocean.  However, this is simply an admission that the models fail to simulate the exchanges of heat between the surface layers and the deeper oceans.  However, it is this heat transport that plays a major role in natural internal variability of climate, and the IPCC assertions that observed warming can be attributed to man depend crucially on their assertion that these models accurately simulate natural internal variability.  Thus, they now, somewhat obscurely, admit that their crucial assumption was totally unjustified.

Finally, in attributing warming to man, they fail to point out that the warming has been small, and totally consistent with there being nothing to be alarmed about.  It is quite amazing to see the contortions the IPCC has to go through in order to keep the international climate agenda going.

End Lindzen statement

Lindzen is an emeritus Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Meteorology, Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences at MIT.

Lindzen has published more than 200 scientific papers and books. He was a lead author of Chapter 7, ‘Physical Climate Processes and Feedbacks,’ of the IPCC Third Assessment Report on climate change.

Perhaps fair to suggest that the Emperor is in the process of being exposed as not really being  clothed in stunning robes after all!

One report is scientifically sound. The other blatantly ignoring the facts and spewing deliberate misinformation. The public has difficulty in discerning which is accurate. Politicians too, although our expectations about that are not high, from sad experience.

My God!, they are still claiming that the hockey stick global temperature trend was/is factual.

Only this week I learned that smaller country schools are sometimes unable to teach Year 12 Physics because of insufficient students being interested. In my day, Physics was a compulsory subject.  Not an encouraging situation for the future.

Changing your mind

Nice topic. Very relevant to my themes where I see so much ‘follow the “leader”‘ without proper thought-processing. So many important issues that require a more open mind an ability to ‘change one’s mind’.

LionAroundWriting

A philosophical point I want to address is the act of changing ones opinion on a matter. We all have opinions. Sometimes they are subjective, other times they are based on information. This latter case changes the opinion to that of fact (or near fact) as we aren’t frequently certain about anything to a 100% degree of accuracy.homunculus philosophy

Now, why is it that when a person, friend, colleague, public spokesperson or politician changes their opinion on a matter are they derided for it? In fact, changing your stance in politics can kill an election or campaign. It is deemed weak to waver on an issue, especially an issue you once espoused and had strong support for. Instead people are encouraged to stick to their past views on matters as it is perceived (wrongly) as a symbol of being resolute and taking a strong stance. To die, metaphorically, standing for something you…

Suzuki’s ignorance

In the early days of conservation awareness, I had respect for David Suzuki. Now I realize that he is another specialist fixated on “the cause”.
He has no understanding of the science and is certainly showing his ignorance and agenda orientation.

Australian Climate Madness

An extreme environmental ideologue, who advocates action on global warming and saving the planet, David Suzuki flies around the world on carbon-fuelled speaking tours and charges thousands of dollars per appearance, whilst exhorting the rest of us to cut back on our excessive lifestyles.

The ABC therefore thinks he’s Gaia incarnate and offered him a full Q&A to himself to spout his propaganda.

Bill Koutalianos, of the Climate Sceptics Party, hit him with the first question on temperature flatlining since 1998. When Suzuki asked how he got to that conclusion, Bill rattled off the acronyms for the four main global temperature sets, GISS, HadCRUT, UAH, RSS. Suzuki was baffled. Ideology and ignorance combined.
