Injustice Anywhere is a Threat to Justice Everywhere.

No doubt about that!

One of several human giants supporting justice and freedom, from whom we can all learn.

This is about as basic as it gets. Anything that is not just, right, lawful or fair is a slap in the face to justice.  It’s like that song about the barrel being placed over our light.  We are called to be lights, but things of this world try to cover it up or even extinguish the light we are trying to shine all around.

Over the years of my teaching career, I have researched Martin Luther King, Jr., mainly for leadership curriculum purposes.  He was a famous leader.  Whether you agree with what he stood for or not, he was and still is a famous leader.  His famous speeches and principles are used today in many ways and the fact that we celebrate this day for him, shows us all that he is still a great leader.   If you read any of his sermons, watch his speeches or…

Humour – A Joke, just for a change of mood. A Scottish setting but universal advice.

An email from a friend, a reliable source of entertainment.

A woman goes to the Doctor in Glasgow, worried about her husband’s temper and threatening manner.

The Doc asks: “What’s the problem, Janet?”

The woman says: “Weeell, Doctor Cameron, I dinae know what to do. Evrae time ma hubbie comes home drunk, he threatens to slap me aroon’.”

The Doctor says: “Aye, well… I have a real good cure for that. When your husband arrives home intoxicated, just take a wee glass of water and start swishing it in your mouth. Just swish and swish but don’t swallow it until he goes to bed and is sound asleep.”

Two weeks later she comes back to the doctor looking fresh and reborn.

She says: “Doctor that was brilliant! Evrae time ma hubbie came home drunk, I swished with water. I swished an’ swished, and he dinae touch me even once! Tell me Doc…wha’s the secret? How’s the water do that?”

The Doctor says: “Janet, it’s really nae big secret. The water does bugger all – it’s keeping your mouth shut that does the trick…”

Australian government departments attack basic freedoms

From ‘Natural News‘, an article by REALAustralianSceptics.

Oh Yes! We follow the UN/USA assiduously. “Global Warming”, Gun control, “War of Terror”, overseas regime change, (perhaps here too, remember how Julia Gillard magically took over?), UN control support, globalization, Big Business, Big Pharma influence, Big Agri influence. All things lessening the people’s freedoms.

Note the author’s comments on the definition of sceptics.

(NaturalNews) Unlike almost every other democracy, Australia’s constitution does not include a Bill of Rights, meaning that basic rights which citizens of other nations take for granted such as freedom of speech or communication, may not necessarily be protected under the law. (1)

This has allowed certain government departments free reign to act against community groups (and others) almost at will and in opposition to what most reasonable people would consider to be fair or in the public’s best interests.

Persecution of the AVN by government departments

A recent example is the demand by the New South Wales (NSW) Department of Fair Trading that the Australian Vaccination Network (AVN), an organization which has been registered under that name with the Department for over 16 years, change its name due to complaints and concerns from “within the community”. The AVN is a community-based information and support organisation that supports the right of all people to make free and informed health choices – especially when it comes to the issue of vaccination. Whilst their Constitution and Code of Ethics specifically restrict them from taking an anti-vaccination position, they are opposed to any form of compulsory vaccination or medication.

These complaints, for which a GIPA (Freedom of Information claim) has now been filed, appear to have originated from two sources:

1. Members of the group, Stop the AVN (SAVN) – a hate group whose sole reason for existence is to force the AVN to close in any way they can. Their tactics have included harassment, death threats, posting of violent pornography, hacking the AVN’s website and a flood of vexatious complaints to various state and federal government departments, leading to investigations which may have cost the Australian taxpayers millions of dollars. (2)

2. The Australian Medical Association (AMA) – an industry lobby group which represents approximately half of all Australian doctors. The collective prestige of the medical profession obviously suffers each time vaccination is called into question.

So the “community” does not appear to have been concerned about the name of this venerable organization. Only a very small but vocal sector who, for whatever reason, have managed to get the ear of the Minister – a Minister who is already under a cloud for having too close a relationship with property developers whose activities his portfolio is meant to regulate.

Protecting corporate interests

As a result of complaints by this small group with strong vested interests – the Minister has not only ordered an organization to change its name (the first time this has been done for these reasons according to preliminary legislation searches), but he has introduced and passed (in record time) legislation to make it easier to do so into the future. (3)

This echoes the AVN’s experience with the Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC), another NSW government body.

In 2009, a member of SAVN filed complaints against both the AVN and its President, Meryl Dorey, claiming that their information was not supportive of vaccination and therefore, it should not be allowed to continue. The complainant asked that a gag-order be issued against both Ms. Dorey and the organization, preventing them from speaking about any health-related issue.

A three-year battle ensued during which time the AVN was cited by the HCCC as being “dangerous, deceptive and misleading” – a ruling that cost the organization its ability to fund raise and its charity authority. A decision by the NSW Supreme Court in April 2012 overturned the HCCC’s warning, reinstated the AVN as a charity and informed the HCCC that the complaints which it had spent a year investigating were not valid complaints in the first place.

The government is now, at the request of the head of the HCCC, in the process of changing the law so that ANYONE can complain about ANYONE who talks about health – PROVIDED they are not doctors for whom the old laws will still apply! Bear in mind that the HCCC was formed to act as a ‘policeman’ for rogue doctors but has, over recent years, been effectively co-opted into a police force for the doctors and government-approved medicine. These law changes that have been drafted to specifically target the AVN will now formalize the persecution of alternative medical practitioners or dissenters.

Perversion of due process

In the eight months since the AVN won its case against the HCCC, they have been targeted by more than a dozen complaints handled by seven different government departments in NSW and other states nationally.

When government departments pervert or instigate legislation for the benefit of corporate interests, to pander to hate groups or to silence community groups who are critical of government policy, and are operating within the law, it seems that all pretense of justice or democracy becomes nothing more than a sham.

About the author:

Sceptics are generally considered to be people who take nothing at face value. They want to see the proof for themselves and don?t accept what they are told unless they can see the evidence with their own eyes.

In today?s society, conflicting opinions, vested interests and the rule of law seem more likely to be governed by an unquestioned, all-powerful scientific elite than by evidence and transparent access to information. There are many who feel that democracies have become scientocracies ? where ?scientists? enact and determine legislation for their own reasons ? rather than the benefit of citizens.

In a climate such as this, it is so important to be a sceptic and to be able to recognise the difference between REAL scepticism and, what is far more common, pseudo (or false) scepticism.

REAL sceptics take responsibility for themselves and their families by doing their own research and making their own choices. These choices are unaffected by popular beliefs and unswayed by the mob mentality evident in so many government and medical community decisions today.

Health – Cardiovascular Disease- Statins, Friend or Foe? (Corrected 13 Jan 2013)

So much has been published about the use of statins for reducing cardiovascular mortality.

So much evidence against statins because of known side-effects but perhaps statistically unknown incidences of these side-effects. Certainly there seems to be sufficient evidence to suggest caution and lack of certainty, so to speak.

This post, “Statins – Friend or Foe?” is by Axel F. Sigurdsson, an Icelandic cardiologist who writes articles on his website “docsopinion.com”.

Again quoting from the same post, regarding a book by Doctor Barbara H. Roberts, who is a cardiologist,  associate clinical professor at the Alpert Medical  School of Brown University as well as director of the Women´s Cardiac Center at the Miriam Hospital in Rhode Island.,  but also applying to this post – “Dr. Roberts discusses the benefits and health risks of statin therapy in a very professional way. She discusses the role of cholesterol in the body and explains the role of cardiovascular risk factors. She explains the “cholesterol hypothesis” and the evidence supporting it. She cites clinical trials and explains in laymen terms how they are interpreted, underlining for example the difference between absolute and relative risk reduction.”

To me, this is convincing, well-balanced information, worth publishing here. (With thanks to Clare “JustMeIn T”, for the tip). Thanks to ‘Docsopinion’ for pointing out the need to correct the authorship acknowledgements.

Last year I wrote a couple of articles about statin therapy, so maybe you would like to tell me to give it a rest. However, I think it is such a hugely important issue, and I have this strong feeling that the truth really has not emerged yet. There are two reasons for the issue resurfacing on my blog now. Firstly, two recent scientific papers touching on the effects of statins on cognitive function, glucose tolerance, skeletal muscle function and coenzyme Q10 really had me thinking a lot about how much we still don´t know about the long-term use of statins. Secondly, last month I happened to read a fantastic book about “the other side” of statin therapy written by an American cardiologist. A well written, thought-provoking, easy to read book that everyone interested in modern-day health care should read, not least doctors. I´ll get back to the book later.

Statins are used by about 25 percent of Americans 45 years and older. Between six and seven million people in the UK take statin drugs every day. But what are they used for? What disease or disorder in our society motivates drug therapy for such a large proportion of the population? In short, statins are prescribed by doctors to help protect healthy but high-risk people from heart disease and to prevent heart attacks and strokes in people who have already been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease..

One has to wonder what gives medical professionals the right to prescribe therapy to such a huge number of people? Firstly, prove of efficacy must be substantial and there is really no room for any doubt. You would expect such therapy to significantly lessen the burden of disease and to prolong life. Secondly, it has to be absolutely proven that such treatment does not cause harm. If we trust regulatory authorities, we will have to assume this is true for statin drugs.

Can Medical Research be Trusted? – Washington Post

Advancing Honest and Ethical Medical Research

Commercially corrupted medicine is the leading cause of death in the US—and it is bankrupting the US budget.  The Washington Post is addressing both issues in a powerful hard hitting investigative series by Peter Whoriskey titled: Can Medical Research be Trusted?

The focus of the series is on Pharma’s – orchestrated corruption in collaboration with academic scientists and prestigious journals—e.g., The New England Journal of Medicine–provided the authority and veneer of legitimacy to fraudulent, often ghostwritten research reports…

AGW – Ocean “Acidity” – Ocean Health (updated rev#1)

English: Annual mean sea surface salinity from...

English: Annual mean sea surface salinity from the World Ocean Atlas 2005. Salinity here is in practical salinity units (PSU). It is plotted here using a Mollweide projection (using MATLAB and the M_Map package). (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I am moved to publish this commentary on the criticality of ocean parameters and effects on sea life, particularly oysters in this case.

THE MOTIVATIONOysters Killed by Climate Change’s Evil Twin

The oyster industry is in trouble. A few years ago, oyster hatcheries in the Pacific Northwest began losing their “seed,” as oyster larvae are known, by the millions. They scrambled to figure out what was behind the massive die-off and discovered that it had to do with “ocean acidification,” also known as climate change’s evil twin.

As with climate change, ocean acidification happens when there’s too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The earth’s waters absorb some of that CO2 — more than a quarter of the amount that we produce — as a way of achieving chemical equilibrium between water and air. “When CO2 mixes with seawater,” Jim Meyer explains, “it creates carbonic acid, and, spoiler alert, increasing acid in the oceans makes the oceans more acidic.”

As in nearly all issues of man-made CO2 influences on our lives, this particular area is not without counter-claims of bias and exaggeration.

I offer the following notes and publish them without editing or extra, deserved research just to get the ball rolling. I suggest the ‘jury is out’ the claim is devoid of credibility, to say the least! (Minor editing now employed).

Note that CO2 is required for ocean plants which in turn photosynthesize O2 which is necessary for the underwater animals/fish for respiration.

Also note that a liquid that is alkaline only becomes acidic when the pH is < 7.0, and the ocean is > 8.0. Technically, the ocean becomes more neutral, not more acidic! That is the start of the brainwashing.

Given the update information, it would have to be concluded that if a reduction in salinity is a problem it surely will not be due to the minor possible CO2 effect. It can only be a real acidic influence from a real pollutant.

GENERAL INFO:

Update information (Rev#1) – Very Relevant. Reference http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oyster_farming

Cultivation

Oyster farming boats in Morbihan (Brittany, France)

Oysters naturally grow in estuarine bodies of brackish water. When farmed, the temperature and salinity of the water are controlled (or at least monitored), so as to induce spawning and fertilization, as well as to speed the rate of maturation – which can take several years.

From wiki on “brackish water” – “Brackish water or briny water is water that has more salinity than fresh water, but not as much as seawater.” And we are being asked to believe that minor variations in normal seawater are seriously detrimental!!!
